Dr. J. S. YADAV-Communication for Development (C4D) Expert

Dr. J. S. Yadav has 35+ years of experience in teaching, training, research, and consultancy. His specialization is quantitative & qualitative research and process documentation of health issues focusing on behaviour change communication and development. He has conducted over 125 research studies, written reports and published 8 books and over 150 professional and journalistic articles.

He has extensive experience in advocacy, campaign design and capacity building for social behavior change communication (SBCC). He planned and conducted several national and international orientation and skill development workshops for media and development professionals.

He has designed IEC strategy, prepared media action plan, developed and designed prototype of media materials for communication/media/social marketing campaigns for many development programs/ projects.
Dr. Yadav worked as the Director Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), New Delhi (1987-1999) and earlier (1972-1987) as a Professor of Communication Research at India’s premier Communication Institute fully funded by Government of India. The Director of IIMC is the chief executive and is appointment on the recommendation of a Search Committee and with the approval of the Appointment Committee of Cabinet, Government of India, and its status is that of a Vice Chancellor of a university or Additional Secretary in Government of India. During this period, Dr. Yadav closely worked with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and had opportunities of interacting with senior officials of other Ministries, Departments of Central and State governments. As a communication expert, Dr. Yadav served many committees and technical advisory groups of the Government and international agencies.

Dr. Yadav has been working as Senior Consultant, Behavior Change Communication, to bilateral national and international organizations. These include: World Bank, WHO, UNICEF, ADB, USAID/ FHI-360 /IHBP, DFID, GHK, Plan India-International, GFA Consulting Group, GTZ, DANIDA, Project HOPE, FES, AMIC, IAMCR, EU, John Hopkins University, University of Pennsylvania, IPE Global/ Government of Bihar, NHAI, JPS & ICT; NACO, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, CTD-Central TB Division, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, Ministries of Tribal Affairs/ Housing and Poverty Alleviation/Rural Development/ HRD and Information & Broadcasting and Consumer Affairs; and the State Governments of National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and others.

Dr. Yadav also conducted a large number of Advocacy & Sensitization Workshops in different parts of the country in association with IAPPD - Indian Association of Parliamentarians for Population and Development for Elected Representatives (ERs) of Parliament, State Assemblies and District Panchyats. The themes covered were Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), HIV/ AIDs, NRHM, Population, health and development.
